Overview

Meta-Data (sgprp database and chunksignature.sig files) of each backup stores the Up-to-Date File/Folder stat information about the respective backup schedule. Full backup and Incremental backup will be performed by checking the meta-data information of the backup.

How to get here in the Extend Backup Web Console?

In the top menu of Backup Client, select: "Backup -> Add Backup" page. Then click the "Advanced Options" button available below the Additional Full Backups in Step 5.
Select the check box near the option "Backup the Meta-Data of this backup". By default this option will be selected.

Purpose of the Meta-Data backup

During Client disaster recovery, recovered meta data (sgprp.db) of corresponding backup will be empty. Hence a fresh full backup will be performed for all recovered backups. In order to avoid this, we need to backup the Meta-Data of the respective backup and restore it back during Client Disaster Recovery (CDR). The Meta-data of a backup is stored in the DB Storage location of the backup i.e. <Installation Location>/data/<BackupName>/sgprp.db.zip.

Backing up the Meta-Data of a Backup

The Meta-Data(sgprp.db.zip) of a backup is backed up in a separate schedule named "METADATA_BACKUP". This backup schedule is created when the first backup is configured. Whenever a backup is configured, the Meta-Data of the particular backup will be added to the backup file list of the "METADATA_BACKUP" backup schedule.

Restoring Meta-Data of a Backup

1. After the Client Disaster Recovery, restore the backup named "METADATA_BACKUP" to its original location i.e <Installation Location>/data/<BackupName>/.

2. Once the Meta-Data(sgprp.db.zip) is restored, Rename the existing sgprp.db to sgprp.db.old. Extract and copy the sgprp.db and chunksignature.sig files from the restored sgprp.db.zip to the current location.

Limitations

1. Currently the Meta-Data backup feature is available only for the File backups.

2. The Client Disaster Recovery should be performed on a freshly installed client. If CDR is performed on a client with existing backups, a full backup will be run even if the Meta-Data is restored.
