Scenario:
You are taking a data backup on External USB Hard Disk through Extend Backup. If your original location's HDD/OS crashes and you need to restore from your USB backup, follow the procedure below.
To Restore Data after crash:
-
On a separate/new computer, download and install Extend Backup (www.extendgroup.net/downloads)
- Ensure when installing the software you use the SAME CLIENT ID as the original backup instance (if in doubt, check the name in the online portal at http://backup1.extendgroup.net:6060.
- Connect your USB drive that contains the backup data, and ensure it is using the same drive letter it was when the original backup was taken (change the drive letter if neccessary in Disk Manager)
- DO NOT register the new client instance with the backup server (Sign Up process from the logon page), login to the software client at http://localhost:6060 using the default credentials.
- Under the 'Restore' menu, click 'Disaster Recovery.
- Select 'Same Machine' for the backup type, and add the backup location on your USB drive (typically the location will be the folder level above the folder called '1'. If in doubt, use the highest level folder in the tree.
- Click 'Recover Backups'. Your backup jobs/schedules will be imported into the software client.
- On the 'Restore' menu, click 'List Backups for Restore'. Your jobs available for restore will be listed, click the 'Restore' icon next to the job you want to recover data from.
- The schedules/versions available for restore will be listed in the left hand pane - click which version you wish to restore, select the data you require, confirm your restore settings (Encryption password, location, etc), and click 'Restore'. Remember to redirect the restore to a new location if you need to.
NOTE that this Disaster Recovery backup client instance will not continue to backup data - all schedules will be disabled.
