Welcome to Extend Enterprise Backup – your company should have been provided with authentication details for the Enterprise Backup reseller portal, and details for downloading the backup client software.
The Enterprise Backup Portal can be accessed via: http://backup1.extendgroup.net:6060
The Client Software can be downloaded from: http://www.extendgroup.net/downloads.html (if you need a password for the download area please contact Extend Support: 087 2300 250
The reseller portal utilises the following hierarchy and terminology:
® Customer
®Client (backup software installation on customer device)
®Schedule (Backup Job Name)
There are several important points to remember:
· Customers must be created in the Backup Portal prior to site installations
· The client name (backup software installation) must be unique within a particular customer
· The Schedule name (backup job name) cannot be modified after ingestion of data (modifying the Schedule name will require a new upload of data)
· The Client (software instance) must be properly registered/authenticated to the Customer before creating your backup schedule and taking your first backup (especially in the case of initial backup to USB for datacentre ingestion)
· All new client installations are registered as 30 day trial accounts, and MUST be ‘upgraded’ to full paying accounts in the Backup Portal. Trial accounts not converted to paying accounts after 30 days are de-activated, and data deleted.
· If you set an encryption password, this cannot be reset or recovered by Extend. You must store this carefully as your backups CANNOT BE RESTORED without it.
Firewall Rules
Extend Enterprise Backup typically only requires outbound access from the customer site – if your firewall allows all outbound no changes should be required. If you block outbound traffic, the following ports will need to be opened to the host backup1.extendgroup.net:
· TCP Port 32004 - for processing Apache/PHP console requests to Extend Backup backend.
· TCP Port 32005 - for processing Apache/PHP console requests to Extend Backup backend.
· TCP Port 32008 - for processing Exchange Mailbox backups in Windows 64 bit OS.
· HTTP Port 6060 - for processing WebConsole requests.
· HTTP Port 6061 - for processing WebConsole requests.
Initial Ingestion and data upload process
For large data volumes we recommend using our USB upload service. The process for this is:
1. Setup your Customer in the Backup Portal
2. Install your Client instance of the software
3. Ensure the Client is correctly registered under the customer (check in the Backup Portal), and run the ‘Connectivity Test’ from the Client instance
4. Create your new backup schedule with all required option and data, and select your USB device as the destination for the backup.
5. Run the backup, and ensure that it has correctly run by checking the volume of data on your USB.
6. Cleanly eject the USB device from the Client
7. Ensure the backup schedule will not run during the ingestion process, by suspending the schedule in the local backup console.
8. Courier or deliver the USB device to Extend (Unit A209, Woodstock Exchange, 66 Albert Road, Woodstock, 7925). Please ensure the device is clearly labelled with both the Reseller and Customer names. If there are multiple Client backups on the device for ingestion, please ensure these are separately in subfolders named the same as each Client instance
9. Datacenter ingestions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
10. Following datacentre ingestion devices will be returned by courier to the Resellers offices.
Creating a New Customer
Create your new customer in the Backup Portal: http://backup1.extendgroup.net:6060
Portal – Reseller Admin – List of Customers |
|
Typically, only fields under ‘Customer Information’ and ‘Basic Configuration need to be completed.
Ensure ‘Automatically add clients when they connect’ is enabled – this allows you to register clients during the Client software installation. |
|
In the Backup Portal, click ‘Edit Customer’ to see their ‘Customer Pass Key’ – this key is required to register clients during the Client software installation. |
|
Copy the Customer Pass Key, and send to your on-site technician for installation or retain for registering your client. |
|
Installing the Client Software
Download the required software from http://www.extendgroup.net/downloads.
Run the installation executable, and select Next.
Accept the licensing agreement on the following screen. |
|
Enter the Backup ID – this is the Client name, i.e. the name of this software installation. This name needs to be unique within this backup customer – we would suggest something logical like the ComputerName, or username_computername. |
|
A ‘Typical’ installation is recommended – this will install the software as a Windows Service, with all software options available.
Confirm installation options on the following screen, and click ‘Install’. |
|
When installation is complete, start the ExtendBackup application, and open the Web Console.
All configuration of the software is done through the locally installed web console, installed by default at http://localhost:6060
|
|
Registering the Client installation
Launch the local web console (http://localhost:6060 – shortcut on the desktop by default), and click the ‘Sign Up’ link below the login fields. |
|
On the Register Client Page, select backup1.extendgropu.net from the server list, and paste in your Customer Pass Key (from the Backup Portal).
The User Name should be pre-filled in, and is your Client installation name / Extend Backup ID you specified during the software installation. If it is not filled in automatically, wait a minute or two and refresh the page.
No other fields are required – click ‘Register Client’ |
|
You should get a ‘successful registration’ message. |
|
If you look in the Backup Portal you will now see your client installation under your customer in the customer list. |
|
Testing Connectivity
Log in to the local client using the default username/password. |
|
On the main configuration screen, select ‘Test Connectivity’ (middle, under Select Backup Server). |
|
This will test all aspects of connectivity to the backup server, including whether the Client is correctly registered and authenticated with the server.
Ensure all aspects are ticked/green.
Note that the Client has been registered as a Trial Client – if this is a full paying customer the Client installation must be upgraded to a Paid account in the Backup Portal. |
|
To upgrade this Client installation to a Paid account, login to the Extend Backup Portal using your reseller account (http://backup1.extendgroup.net:6060), browse to the Customer in the Customer List, and click the second last icon to the right to upgrade the Client to a Paid account. |
